+20 Thrust Washers

PostPost by: peterako » Wed May 09, 2012 9:34 am

Hi everyone,

I'm in search of +20 Thrust Washers.

These seem to be more rare than hen's teeth.

Does anyone know where I might get these?

Have already tried the usual suspects....

Thanks in advance,
Peter

A related question.....

What size thrust washer do I need for a +20 ground crank?

Do I really need a +20 washer??

Thanks,
Peter

An under cut 20 thou crank will require + 20 thou mains/big ends, in my experience the thrust face of the crank usually does not require grinding unless it is damaged and new standard thrust washers are fine.
I only ever remember fitting one set of + 10 thrust washers.

If the sumps off, gently prise the crankshaft forward and aft to determine the endfloat, then select your thrust washer...

Most specialist engine machine shops can build up a thrust washer to the thickness required for just a few dollars by building up the bearing metal and machining it smooth and parrallel with the metal backing

The Datsun cranks I use require an oversize thrust washer. I use a standard one to take the load from the clutch release bearing and use the built up one on the other side as it does not see any significant load.

cheers

Thank you all!

Will do as suggested.

The whole engine is in bits at the moment....being totally rebuilt.

The thrust washer was the last piece needed to complete the jigsaw.

I'm going crazy waiting to be back on the road in my Elan again :)

How will I hold myself back running the engine in???
(Been driving a white van and then a tank of a merc.....)

Thanks again!!
