I have a short engine being rebuilt at the moment. The engine had a stromberg head and was in a 1974 car. I need +20 pistons. The usual suspects all seem to be quoting ?340+vat.
Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

I got a set of four nos standard pistons with rings for less than ?100 from Fibreglass services - I'm having my block resleeved anyway so it seemed an excellent deal.

I can't help Chris but I'd be interested to know if you find any at a more sensible price as I have plans for my engine over the winter.
That does seem a lotl of money for 4 pistons .....not helped by VAT at 20%

I know some will probably screech about this, but try eBay. I have "Lotus Twin Cam" as a fixed search, and there is hardly a week that a set of oversize pistons comes up, both new and used. Many of the sale prices are well below retail. I bought a set of new .020 Venolias for about $300 (US). And was very pleased.
I'm sure there will be the horror stories, but if you ask lots of questions, and do some research, you should be OK.
