I DIDN'T WANNA DO THIS. However...
Correction...John is totally responsible. He wasn't referring to how big a t*t I was. It's just that errrmmm?...we were talking about...errrmmm?..."D" profiles cams and...errrmmm?...John pointed out that...errrmmm?...I've got two of them...
Yes, that's it!
"We were discussing "D" profile camshafts, John said I've got a pair of them, so I got an avatar to match"
Phew that was close!
(Just back from Pub Lotus after downing some sherberts in celebration...good ol' Twink)

That probably means that 50 years ago yesterday they had it to bits to fix the leaking water pump....
And 50 years and two days since the legendary apprentice nipped out to the legendary shop to get the mythical "Lotus Grey" paint!
Actually I expect that it didn't leak oil, or water and started first time.

Here speaks a so called heretic.....
For it's day it was the most powerful road going sub 1600 cc engine bar none apart from extremely low volume specials. It graced the engine bays of the most desirable and almost affordable sports cars and saloons of the time that may have been out of the immediate reach of most, but could be tantalisingly close for a good many people to put it not just in the realms of an impossibly expensive dream but into the realms of a 'someday maybe'.
Yes, it leaked and still leaks oil, although some on here and elsewhere will tell you it doesn't or shouldn't.
Yes, there were cost compromises made so that certain components were over stressed such as the water pump.
Yes, the distributor and fuel pump were impossible to get at for adjustment or replacement.
Try to remember the first time you heard a Lotus Twincam at full chat.
Try to remember the number of twincam engined cars that won rallies or races.
Try to remember that the engine was developed on a shoestring budget.
The Twinc is an old engine, but it is iconic and will still win open bonnet 'Top Trumps' points in the pub car park.
Maybe one day I will put one of my spare Twincs back in one of my cars
Happy 50th you incontinent old git
