Cam ID ?

PostPost by: types26/36 » Sun Mar 13, 2011 7:16 pm

Can anyone identify these cams? they have the two Sprint ID rings, appear to have the same lift as a Sprint cam, were fitted with grub screws (as opposed to dowels) and have a logo that looks like a "W" inside a cam profile....anyone seen that logo before?

Brian,

I haven't seen that logo before.

I'm sorry I can't help, but good luck in your quest :P

..."with Ed Winter cylinder head"

Could this be the missing W?

Yes, there are Weslake and Wade as well but no one seems to have the "W" logo.

Wade Cams has a sign on their building with three cam lobes that is not too different from the image stamped on the end of the camshaft, although it doesn't have the W.

Whatever they are...Timing? Vernier sprockets, presumably. Or are/were half threaded dowels available! ? :?

Presumably the cams were fitted during the cars life in South Africa, it was exported within the first six months of leaving the factory to avoid purchase tax (I have all the details including the shipping manifest) I brought it back in 2002.
The only cam grinder I knew of in S.Africa was Ritchie Jute but I doubt it was one of his grinds, I would take a guess that the securing grub screws were fitted to the sprockets as it is easier to set up the timing then just drill and fit grub screws rather then mess about with off set dowels and is also less expensive then vernier sprockets. (been there---done that!
The thing is that from the measurements that I am able to do and comparing them with Sprint cams they "appear" to be standard Sprint Cams :?
