Did search, read books, still need help

I know my block and head aren't original and it really doesn't matter to me, but I'm looking for some help on IDing them.

Starting with the head. It has LP 10662 on the back, so I'm trying to narrow down the year. It appears to be a big valve high compression, because it has the N or Z stamp and it's a later head with the web and sand cast. Her's the pic:

I can't get a clear picture of the engine number and it's been painted over. I've been trying to remove the paint to get a feel for what is stamped/scribed. What I can see so far is 46 F 23. I haven't been able to see if there is anything in front of the 4, but after the 3 on the end there appears to be more numbers, however they're very light and unreadable at this point.

I know the head can be narrowed down, but does that partial engine number mean anything at this point to anybody?

I did a search of Franks Elan transcription and there was no LP10662 so I looked at the plus2 .pdf and did a manual "eyeball search" and got a hit. The head was originally on 50/0293 invoiced on 4/28/1968. That is to early to be a big valve and the stamp may have been added later to signify that it have been brough up to spec or someone just put it there to fool folks. Not sure what to make of the block number, which side did you find it? looks kind of like a casting date, these are located in the exhaust side kind of near the generator mounts but a bit higher. Engine numbers on on the shelf above the intake side motor mount,

Gary,

Thanks for the info Gary, and I agree that the head "N" could have been added easily. The numbers on the block I found on the ledge, right side, under the carbs, where the normal LP engine number would be. Very hard to read the numbers/letters, as that ledge isn't that smooth. The 4 is hardly readable, the 6 and F are very readable, the 2 is hard to read, but 3 is easy to read, and unless my eyes are playing tricks there are other numbers. I'll keep trying to clean the ledge, and it would be nice to put something on that area to highlight any stampings or etchings that are there.

Since the engine runs good, but not super strong, and appears to be very stock in performance, I don't plan on pulling it anytime soon. Just kinda want to know what I've got at this point. It's pretty obvious this car was pieced together and personalized at various times over it's history, which doesn't bother me at all. I plan on continuing to add original missing pieces as I own it, but upgrading as well to make it a driver.

I can't read much of anything anymore, I take a piece of paper and hold it on the ledge, without moving the paper I pencil over the whole piece except wher my finger are and then read the paper. The depressions for the stamped letters and numbers are the only white part left on the paper. That's if you can get at it, if not it will be there later when you can...
