Cam Cover Colour

PostPost by: Vanden Perre » Sat Oct 29, 2005 7:59 pm

My 1966 FHC Standard (not S/E) S3 cam cover has a light metallic grey-blue paint.
When I check in the Miles Wilkins book about the Lotus Twin Cam Engine I do not see any mention of this colour for a cam cover. Was this colour standard for this model?
Can someone help me to find out what the original colour was?

PS. The carburators are Weber

It is easy to overlook but my 2003 copy of "LOTUS Twin-Cam Engine" has it.

In Part Three, Chapter I, page 181, Table I - Twin-cam Identification of Wilkins' book lists the "Standard Weber Domestic and export Elans from 1963 onwards" as having a dark blue cam-cover colour.

I love it!
You guys have nothing else to worry about but the colour of your cam covers!
I can't wait until I am at that stage.
Good luck!

My 1969 S4 had a crinkle-finish red, but it was mostly worn off. We had the cover powder coated bright yellow to match the car. Looks great and who cares if it's "correct". The electric fan and the Dave Bean water pump conversion aren't correct either, but it runs great!

chris, the water pump coversion from dave bean makes it easier to remove water pump in case of failure....prevents having to pull the motor for access...when mine fails thats the way im goingl
