Re-profiled Camshafts

PostPost by: adigra » Wed Nov 04, 2009 10:11 pm

Greetings,

I searched around a bit and, although some people have been considering it, or were in the process of doing it, there didn't seem to be a definite conclusion on re-profiled cams. I'm interested in fitting Sprint cams to my SE (to further benefit from the 3.5 diff), and was wondering how accurate, reliable, etc. the cams offered by QED and Burton are, and if there are advantages to ordering new over re-profiling my existing ones?

Best regards,
Adi

One disadvantage of re-profiling your existing cams is that you will need to use larger shims to get the correct valve clearances.

Used reprofield cams, & never had probs normally L2 profile & L1 so generally worked quite hard, might even be an advantage if small shims fitted. Have allways used Steve at Vulcan Engineering in Hanwell Middex, he will prob tell you that the new cams all come via kent cams so quall should be good. But regardless of source you should be timing them in using offset dowells or vernier cams to gain real accuracy. Also burtons now supply an additive for your oil to protect against cam wear ZZ something & remember to replace followers or there will be tears. Hope some help Curly :D Also there might be one of our members with a good set of used sprint cams for sale?

Thank you both.

I have read about the shims in one of the previous threads, as well as replacing followers... Since the car will be off the road for a while during the winter I thought it would be a good opportunity to do an upgrade or two as well.

If anyone has a good set of Sprint cams let me know!
