Random Misfire

PostPost by: collins_dan » Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:27 pm

I have a random misfire or hesitation over 4500rpm. It seems to occur, then go away. At first I thought it was due to the coil getting hot, or the coil being too high voltage for the distributor (Pertronix Flamethrower with original Lucas distributor). I checked under the cap and all looks fine and last time it occurred, the engine was at proper operating temp. I also checked fuel pressure and my regulator is set on 2, as others have suggested is a good level. (Stromberg carbs and electric fuel pump) I'm getting ready to just order a new cap, rotor and spark plugs leads as mine are quite old anyway, but it almost seems fuel related, in that once it occurs, it usually doesn't occur again. Almost like clearing its throat, once clear, its good to go. I'm stumped. Any thoughts appreciated.

Dan

PS. I checked the plugs which are a nice light brown.

perhaps your fuel line needs a blow through to cleen it out, or maybe its some debris in the carbs.

just a thought,happy motoring...
