valve cover color

PostPost by: mac5777 » Sun Aug 31, 2008 5:35 am

Here is a picture of the original valve cover color. I painted it silver during the restoration. I now want to powder coat the cover as close to the original color and hope some one may have a mix code.
Two pictures of the original Elan, un-touched and as it is now.
I am amazed at the interest in my knock off tool in the Business and vendors list section and thank you for that. I am coming to the last of the third run.

... Hi Sarto ,
Looking to your baby , an "early" S3 , with webers and Mk1 engine cam cover, you may have two options . The two are with hamered paint , "light blue" or as on my "OEW" , "light green" . This to match with the type of camshaft , B-type 105Hp weber-engine or C-type 115Hp weber-engine .

Hi guys, I believe, I have a weber, 105 Hp setup for a US Elan. Most likely a B-type 105Hp weber-engine as stated by the prior owner. The color had a turquoise look to it and seemed to be the original smooth paint color.
Knowing that the camera can change the color a bit, the photo of my cover appears to be correct in my minds eye.
Thanks for the two other color choices. Blue seems to be closer than the green for a match.

Sarto ,
Don't think you will have huge choice with hamered colors ... At least you can buy some blue and light grey then mix them ...
Show us the result .
On "OEW" , the light green was definitly hidden under 7 (!) coats of different color ... Every time the previous owners wanted to "clean" the engine bay , it get a new color . It take me ages to strip out all this stuff , and the green hamered was the most difficult to remove .
