Engine Numbers - again

Sorry to bring up this topic again but I wonder if anyone can shed any light on my engine number
the car is a 1968 +2
The engine number is LP10983LBA and I have confirmation from Chris Brown at Lotus that this is the original engine. The same engine number is also stamped in smaller letters on the Head.
"50/0478 was built with engine number LP10983LBA and signed off the production line on 1st March 1968. The selling dealer looks to have been Ian Walker Ltd who supplied the car to a D.Aresti but sadly this is all the information we have and I wish you well with the restoration.
Yours sincerely
Chris Brown"
My question is how does this engine number relate to the serial numbers given in Miles Wilkins Twincam book? He quotes serial prefixes C-W but none seem to apply to my engine number, how do I decipher LP10983LBA?
The cam cover appears to have always been black and has the Lotus lettering across the front, the cams are the single groove S/E C-type.
None of this ties in with the info in Miles's book.
Can anyone add any light on this?
Cheers
Jon
