Just found these in a 'sale' and wondered if anybody had experience of these spark plugs? Are they any better than NKG plugs? They are certainly more expensive..

Carl,

There is a recent discussion of iridium spark plugs on the ferrarichat.com web site. See:

http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166839

They appear to be discussing NGK iridium spark plugs, but the Denso ones are probably at least as good. The 2-valve 308's are also a hemi head and use the same plugs as the Elan.

Haven't used the iridium type, but the standard Denso is far superior to NGKs. My 350 Chevy (before rebuild) would foul every other brand of plug!

This website looks interesting as it lists a wide number of plugs available for the Elan

(The US price seems to suggest an exchange rate of $1=?1 compared with UK sellers :? )

Hi I have used NGK Iridium plugs thinking this new technology would help squeeze more out of the engine. My Sprint Engine has low miles good compression & in good running order

I experienced a few cold weather splutters in getting it to start. This was the only item I changed on the car. I was a little annoyed as they are very expensive in AUS as I expected the first piston over the top to fire not so!

I contacted my friendly technical engineer who works for Toyota racing TRD who indicated they are better suited for modern unleaded fuel injected engines. He suspected they would coke up in the Elan. He was right they do tend to coke up & if one does the usual two pumps on a cold engine they are harder to come to life even though I'm using Lumination.

I saved some money & put the V grove back in. Problem solved. Hope this helps.
