CPL2 Camshafts

PostPost by: ttaunton » Thu Aug 09, 2007 8:04 pm

I am having no luck at all finding a secondhand Sprint (2 ringed) cam, or even a new one. Apparently original Lotus cams are no longer made, so I am therefore faced with the prospect of fitting an equivalent instead. The CPL2 camshaft, available from Burton, and others, is often said to be an equivalent, but when you phone they just say it's "nearly the same" or "almost". The numbers look the same (ish).
Was this a Cosworth cam? Has anyone got experience of it?
I remember walking in to Len Street's in Chelsea in my younger days and buying Sprint camshafts of the shelf. Happy days.

it is a Cosworth profile. I recall it being relativley mild, with clean ports and a 421 header , looking at 130+ hp

Piper also do an off the shelf cam that is pretty close to the sprint profile. 270 duration instead of 272 not that you will notice the 2 degree difference.

This is a great profile for road use, good wide torque band and reasonable top end power, around 130bhp should be easily achieved.
