Engine problems - help needed

PostPost by: mg-racer » Sun Feb 18, 2007 12:10 pm

Hello to all Elan drivers,

actually I have a problem with my Sprint, perhaps there is anybody who had that fault as before.

The problems started in summer. The hotter the engine, the lower the rev limit. I thought there were gas bubbles in fuel line if it's getting hotter.

But now at winter temperatur the problem is still there and it is getting worse.
At the moment car starts perfect runs well if its cold (on choke). After a few minutes it feels like running too lean and at full throttle it seems to die.
I dismatled the Dellortos, but could not found a fault (both are clean inside all jets are fine).

Could it be a problem with the mechanical fuel pump?

Looking foreward to get some help.

Regards

I had a similar problem with my race Elan a few years ago, it would run perfectly to start with and then gradually run less and less revs. After changing everything many times we finally traced it to the small earth wire in the the top of the distributor next to the points getting hot and breaking down and affecting the electrics. Fixed the earth wire and the problem went away. I have been told that the newer distributors are not manufactured by Lucas and often have this problem.

Good morning,

my car has a lumenition electronic ingnition system.

Could that be problematic? Even at outside temperatures of 2 degrees I have that fault.

Thanx
