Please if you can help me fast....It?s a good base project and it is quite complete...

Don't quote me on this but if it is a lotus block it should have a L cast in the side of the block behind the engine mountings....but what is wrong with a ford block???

Altough its possible I doubt it has a "Pinto" (SOHC) as that engine is tall in the 1600 version and the 2 litre even taller, I think it would need a large bulge in the bonnet, the exhaust is also on the other side which could be a problem.
Lotus didn't make an engine so they are all Ford anyway, as for the "L" block I am not even sure it stood for Lotus although Lotus did use it.
Here is a paragraph from the Lotus Cortina people and
here is a pic of an L block that was on ebay recently although it is 681F Block as used in the T.C. Escort
QUOTE:

Something rather special, reputedly of Ford Germany origin probably for the Escort T/C. Only made as an ?L? block, a meatier casting altogether, with big square main caps, the best basis for a competition engine, and much sought after. Many were used with 81mm bores towards the end of Ford?s engine exchange scheme for the 1500cc Cortina, so you know where to look! 701M 6015

And another pic showing the casting number, a 701 or a 711 is also in the same place.

Hi i've came from seeing the Lotus, I think is a Ford Block also, like the 2nd photo. It has the number 20E6015, the T1 inscription like the photo and that drawing on the left (like a star); Althow, the engine is not equal, it has the surround of the pistons like the first photo, not straight like the 2nd..(sorry the bad english...) It is mounting a single weber, and the admission and the exaust are from this side (of the numbers). Just a single question, the block is similar to the Lotus one? what are the major diferences? The guy tells me that he have the Lotus head in fair condition, but the valve cover is from a big valve!...with those stripes like the s130 (I suppose...). I'll buy the car, it is very good (much better than mine, but i'm afraid of the engine...) In Portugal is very important the originality (matching numbers..). Thank you all! I'll put some photos when i have it!

Oooohhh, internet is superb!!!
I've foud this article, i think it explains all:
http://www.lotus-cortina.com/library/block/blocks.htm
It is probably a 120E6015 block (Ford part) not a 20E6015...
If the head is OK, i understand from the article that I can put it on this block isn?t it?? So, not all the Lotus blocks have the L stamped...
Thanks once more!

Yes, if it is Kent type engine (Xflow or pre-Xflow) the Lotus head will fit although with a lot more work on the Xflow.
It sounds like the 1500 pre Xflow if it is the 120E which is what Lotus used on early cars.

Looks like it's the early pre crossflow as you say, it will have a four bolt crank with rope seals and the weak, rounded main caps and is certainly not original to the plus 2.
If you are fitting a big valve head or any lotus head to this block at least check the con rods are 125e and not 116e cortina type. It may be that some previous owner has just put a normal bottom half in.
Have you got the front covers and all the other bits you will need to fit the head?
And don't forget the front bearing on the camshaft in the block is different in a lotus, You can modify it if it's just a standard 116e ford one.
DON'T forget to check the con rods
Regards
Dave

Dave,
Are you talking about the cam bearing (pre X flow) which becomes the jackshaft bearing in the T.C.? if so what is different about it?

Brian,
Pics of lotus jackshaft on left and standard cam on right. OK I can't lay my hands on my 116e Gt cam so I have used a later crossflow cam but the slots are the same. ie one on the Ford cam & 4 on the Lotus
I think the idea of 4 slots on the lotus shaft is to get more oil up into the head.
Regards
Dave
PS just found the 116e cam and it's identical to the crossflow with one slot
