Elan Sprint oil filter

PostPost by: John Larkin » Sun Nov 12, 2006 8:05 am

The oil filter on my recently acquired Elan Sprint comes with the rubber sealing ring contained in a groove in the base of the filter.

On my S3 Elan the oil filter has a flat base and the rubber sealing ring goes into a groove on the face of the oil pump.

My workshop manual describes the type of installation that I know from the S3, but not that in the Sprint.

Were different oil pumps and filters installed in Sprints?

John,

Had a quick look in Matty's catalogue. They list one filter to fit all Elans and +2's. There is a filter only option too - presumably for very early pumps.

They only list two types of pump - the standard one, and an uprated version.

I could find no mention of more than one pump variant in Brian Buckland's excellent book. He simply says that it was a standard Ford Kent item.

Sorry I can't help more.

Regards,
Stuart.

The T.C. engine was fitted with two types of oil pumps with different filters, the loose cartridge type and then the spin off type, here is the Lotus bulletin describeing it. http://www.lotuselan.net/publish/lsb_oil_filters.shtml
