why 701 and not 711M?
Got a 711M for 100 quid from Ebay.
Done less than 20K miles, no wear on bores or crank.
Will be a prject for the winter!

701's were the original design werent they?....
thought it was all to do with the height of the block and keeping it original....had really contemplated a 711.....if its a taller block what the new stroke???....what would I need??....
just fancied keeping a 701.....

- yes, 701 was the original design ( S4). 711 is taller and does also mean you need other parts....( like crank, pistons, spacers, longer chain etc. etc. )
An engine built on the 1600 block would normally give you slightly more power and torque all other things kept alike, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 701 ! Some of them came off the Ford exchange programme for Cortinas etc. and may still have the 80,96 mm bore.....
Then with a 82,55 bore you have a virgin !!
