Cooling fan thermostat

PostPost by: chrishewett » Thu Sep 14, 2006 7:08 am

Since the kenlowe adjustable thermostat failed on my +2 I have been trying to find an alternative. I have seen a simple device which is about the size of a watch battery that simply attatches to the outside of the top hose. The guy that owns the car it was on tells me that they are available in different heat settings but he didn't know where the previous owner bought it. The one he had switched the fan on at 80 degrees which I suppose would be ok for a twincam. Has anyone come across them or have any thoughts?

A few suggestions for turning on a fan.

My Pacet fan came with a thermocouple that fits in the top hose and a switch to adjust the operating temperature.

You can also buy tee pieces which fit in the top hose and a temperature switch screws into it.

You can get thermocouples which go on the outside of the radiator usually pushed in between the fins.

Finally one of the thermostat housings with a temp switch facility.

Any of these should be readily available from various suppliers.

"Finally one of the thermostat housings with a temp switch facility."

Clive is too modest to mention the fact that he makes these and that they are of excellent quality.

Enlarge the hole in the rad for the old type "otter switch" and solder an M24 brass nut over the hole, then you can buy 2 pole sensors from any motorfactor, down to 68degrees C! get the nut from a broken plastic radiator tank (local body shop skip)

have done this on nearly every car I have owned (Renault cooling fans are excellent as well , from the 5,9,11, clio and 21)
