Con rod bolts

PostPost by: vikebo » Mon Aug 07, 2006 12:12 pm

Hi,

I torqued up the con rod bolts a few weeks ago, but the engine has not been used. Should I change the bolts if I take the pistons out again?

Eivind

Assuming its a standard egine with standard bottom end components and bolts and your intending to use the standard 6500 rpm rev limit then no problem in reusing the bolts and proably a good idea to torque and releease a couple of time if you are setting the bolts by torque and not stretch..

If its non standard then it can depend on the exact components and use intended on whether the bolts are reuseable.

Generally I would recommend using a stretch gauge rather than bolt torque to set con rod bolts but for a standard engine you can get way with just using bolt torque provided they are lubricated properly and torqued and released carefully a few times to ensure the threads are not binding and producing a false reading.

Rohan,

Yes, fairly standard. Thank you for your help!
