Standard vs Quaife oil capacity ?

PostPost by: cabc26b » Tue Jul 18, 2006 9:27 pm

Hello ,
I am looking for some practical knowledge here . Does anybody know the volume difference between a Quaife gear set ( Dog-box ) and the stock gear cluster ? I am suspicious that after refilling I have shorted the box the necessary amount ( may be that car is not 100% level on the stands , I don?t mind putting some heel to the right to make the oil flow) My supposition is that the real volume is much less than the published spec.

Not sure about the dog change gears but the syncro change quaiffe straight cut gears caused no signficant change in gear oil volume fill compared to a standard box.

In any case in a splash lubricated gear box such as this it is oil level that is important not fill volume so as long as you have it full to the fill plug level and the car is close to level while doing it then no problems regardless of the actual volume put in.

Thanks Rohan -

My concern is/was that I drained 600ml out and can only get about 500ml back in . On my street car I fill the box with the car on the floor. My race car because of the 4into1 headers ,big-bore collector and mid section makes this impossible so I have t put it up on stands ( not nearly as level) . if I knew the the volume I would pre-load the pump and fill.

Looks like i will have to figure out a work around.
