Replacement Emblem on control knobs

PostPost by: l10tus » Mon Sep 23, 2024 2:35 pm

Does anyone have experience replacing the choke, Heater and Lights, 'emblem' on the original black control knobs please?

Gone are the days when you had to purchase extortionate priced new old stock cables, as stick-on replacement Emblem or motifs are available from numerous suppliers.

Although the existing motif looks like it needs to be removed, when upgrading to nice new designs - question is how is it best replaced?

I've tried levering it with a screw driver, soaking it in hot water, etc but the original is proving difficult to remove - any ideas by people who have achieved it this far???

Hi there

I believe the knobs were originally in two separate pieces (or three if you include the clear window) screwed together. Good luck getting them apart though, I couldn't. I think they may have been glued together when originally assembled.

Thanks Andy,
I've heard that said before, but there's no way they were assembled by that method, I think that's wishful thinking.
There's no witness joint marks anywhere.
I 'm in the process of destroying a spare original wiper knob and can't see a screw thread or joint at all.
Back to the Hammer and chisel. !

I believe there may have been two types of knobs, as indicated in this thread:

I have ones which can be taken apart into two pieces, with great difficulty and others that seen to be one piece, with the foil and lens glued/clipped into place. I have found both types difficult to dismantle without damage.

Disclaimer that I havent tried this (yet), but recall someone suggesting that you can drill through the transparent convex plastic 'window' which sits in front of the emblem and then lever the window out using the hole.

I guess the new emblem and window then snaps into place?
