What is this thing?

This electrical thing is under the dash by the steering column on my Plus 2. I think it had some sort of cover over it.
It's disconnected but I've no idea what it is.

Looks to me like a buzzer/bell with the top " gong" removed.... anti-theft / warning device ?

Could it be the remains of a battery cut off switch, as the cable to the solenoid is close by?

As mentioned above, looks like an electric sounder with the cover / bell missing.

Probably the remains of some sort of alarm.

So I finally got round to pulling this thing out. Its a Gents of Leicester bell but missing the gong bell dome bit. The wiring was cut so I don't know where it was hooked into but most likely for an alarm. It was probably taken from someone's front door or robbed from an old school in the UK. Yet another weird item on the old girl. Just like the VW washer bottle.
