Smiths fg 2530/71 fuel gauge not working

PostPost by: Sandals man » Mon Feb 13, 2023 9:33 am

Hello everybody,This is Willem from Holland.I need advice.
I finished my restauration from the s3 and fuel gauge not working.I checked the tank sender unit and it had a broken wire inside.Bought a new one from SJ.Checked the ohm full and empty 6 and 80 ohm which is correct.Still no gauge moving.I put 12 volt on the gauge and measured on the side going to the sender 1, to 6 volt ?when moving the sender unit arm. There was no voltage stabilisator on my s3.I changed the polarity on my car to negative is ground.Am I correct that I did not change the polarity on my gauge wires?
I searched on this elan net but do not know what to do.
Thanks for helping

Gauge in an early S3 has a 3 wire connection. See this article should make things clear.

I was going by your reading of the tank sender ohms, 6 to 80, if correct this is the sender for a 3 wire gauge. 2530/71 is a 3 wire gauge connected as shown in link.
