Plus 2 Wiring Harness

PostPost by: 111Robin » Thu Nov 25, 2021 11:02 am

Needing a bit of clarification on this. SJS sell the harness in sections (engine bay, dash, rear), but don't differentiate between dynamo/alternator. I called them and they said it was the same for both, doesn't sound right. Autosparks just show a main harness, presumably incorporates engine bay and dash, but there is an option for alternator with heavier wiring as a result. So how can SJS claim that the one harness will be correct for dynamo and alternator ?. Apart from the gauge of the wires the connections are completely different and there's no control box. Has anyone fitted these ?. I'm assuming the SJS looms are from Autosparks anyway which only adds to the confusion.

I have no idea of the actual harness as I always make my own with more modern cable, but it would be quite possible to combine both types into one - just lay cables alongside each other before wrapping. But do make sure - especially if you are a novice to wiring - that the harness is well marked on which cables should be used before cutting off the unwanted wires.

Why not just buy direct the correct loom from Autosparks? They manufacturer them and personally have found them very good and helpful to deal with. They will tailor a loom to your bespoke requirements if needed.

Of course there’s a difference. I agree with alanr - buy direct, that’s what I did

I'm happy to order from Autosparks, I've fitted their looms on other cars, however there's a 6 to 8 week lead time on the plus 2 harness. They only list a dynamo harness for the plus 2 with an optional alternator conversion kit. I'm happy to order this however I presumed that heavier gauge wiring would be required throughout the harness for an alternator, not just an add on to enable the alternator to be connected. They are the experts however.

Decided to order from Autosparks, ticking the alternator option, it's not like I'm working to a deadline so a 6-8 week lead time isn't an issue. Better to play it safe than chancing it with something not quite correct.
