tacho short update

So, drivers seat out, wished i practiced yoga and half an hour under dashboard, i can see and feel no damage to any of the cables, one of the power in cables insulation is thin for about an inch. the only thing i can find is the black plastic surround for the ignition light, as photos you can see the plastic has melted around the metal insert, it looks enough to create the volume of smoke that i saw.
I hooked everything up with tacho half in dashboard and it was running okay for a couple of minutes although a wee bit rough.
I am inclined to think something created a short when i pushed the tacho home.
Would appreciate any thoughts.
Many thanks

Maybe you have pushed them into the wrong holes...one is earthed ( high beam ) the other isn't ( ignition).
