Elan S4 FHC Wiring Loom

PostPost by: RAJ2628 » Thu Mar 04, 2021 8:00 pm

During my UK S4 FHC restoration project I have bought a new 3 part wiring loom.
Do any clear diagrams exist for routing of a UK RHD loom.
My rear loom came without a branch for the rear number plate lights.
I expected to see a branch that fed through the inside of the boot lid (entering the lid front left hand side and emerging at the lid rear centre) but it is not provided.
Is it normal to build that part of the loom yourself and feed it into the existing loom.
All advice and pics gratefully received.

Who supplied the loom.

Autosparks in the UK. I think the only additional wire I had to add was for the electric cooling fan.

Me too.
When I queried the missing branch they said it is not part of their recorded pattern. They have not seen an example to record this additional piece. They assume that this wiring comes as part of a pre-wired number plate lamp.
Perhaps an earlier series might not have needed this branch.
Strange.
Further investigation required. Thanks for your help.

I haven't got that far yet in my own basket case S4 rebuild, but I'm guessing that as the number plate lamps are in the tail lamp circuit, there is probably a separate twin wire cable, linked via bullet connectors, to the tail lamp wires where they enter the boot/trunk area. It would make sense to have a separate cable to enable the boot lid to be easily removed without disturbing the lamps.

I’m sure my Sprint has its original rear wiring. The section that passes through the boot lid is separate from the main rear loom, as suggested by smo17003

Sorry I guess I didn't make it clear that the harness to the number plate lamps is as the others have said, a separate wire harness that connects with bullet connectors. It was however supplied with the harnesses.

Thanks for all your help.
I am not electrical, so I am a bit ignorant with these things, so I try to keep it simple.
I have mapped out the rear loom so that it makes sense to me. As you can see there is no branch for the number plate lights. Do the connectors for the Heated Rear Screen and RH Light Cluster offer a way of connecting to a separate loom. The HRS position would be close to the front right corner of the boot lid.

Your diagram is not too clear but the branch you have labelled "heated rear screen" appears to include RED and BLACK cables - those are the number plate lamp connections. You seem to be missing the separate cable that runs from there through the boot lid to the lamps. The heated rear screen cables are BLACK/WHITE and BLACK

Thank you, I was wondering about that. I had the HRS wiring put in as a just in case item. Its location falls nicely for a branch off to the number plate lights. Problem solved. All I need now is to measure up for a new branch and ask the manufacturers to make me one up.
Sorry about the poor picture quality.
Thanks to you and all contributors.
