Pertronix 43 D side exit distributor cap

On my second Pertronix, 43 D distributor with side exit cap. This time have the, "Ignitor 2", doubt makes a difference. Number three cylinder goes dead. Going through typical trouble shooting. Removed distributor cap. Looked closely in side cap. Cracks on either side of contacts in rear of cap (on my car cylinder 1 and 3) running vertically up to top of cap. Looks like copper contacts were pressed fit into plastic cap, hence the cracks? Distributor rotor has unwanted rotation on distributor shaft (I could probably live with this). Rotor locating peg is too small for for slot in distributor shaft. This Pertronix distributor probably has 200 miles on it. Get out the spare cap and rotor, Close look, cap is cracked in exact same locations. Rotor also has limited rotation on distributor shaft also. The rotor should not be free to move on distributor shaft. The issue is cracks in cap. Is this common? For my two caps it is.
IAre ther other distributor caps, that will fit on the Pertronix 43D distributor? Does Lucas still make a side exit dap for the 43D?
I will phone Pertronix Monday as to this situation. Doubt they have other quality caps that will fit.
Thank you for the time and information. Steve V, Arizona USA

I think you have to use a Pertronix cap with the Pertronix distributor.

Not necessary, my S3 has been running with an Aldon Ignitor (UK market name for a Pertronix), for 17 years with a Lucas cap.

I bought some spares for my Lotus 20/22 Formula Jr a couple of years ago and in the collection was a complete new spare Petronix ignition for the 43/45 distributor. But all my Elans and FJr are on 23/25 distributors. Included are some special red rotors, a cap and the Pertronix unit, all new in their boxes.
I'd like to trade for matching pieces for 23/25 distributor, so they can be used for my cars.
Roger
