Salut Graham

If you search the forum many recommend the Odyssey 680 dry-cell. I bought the larger 925LMJ as there wasn't much difference in price and the L suffix means the battery terminals are reversed making installation neater. Both are smaller than the standard battery so you'd need to make up a strap to hold it in place. There is certainly increased and longer cranking power despite the lower total capacity. Count three to four times the price of a normal battery.

Others say the standard battery is sufficient - and probably is if you drive regularly and your engine set up well.

Could (or) also be worth thinking about a high-performance starter if you're after extra cranking power.

My Elan S3 SE came with a type 063 battery. Not sure if it was standard.

I too have used O63's on all my Elans over the last 15 years, never any problems but all my cars had alternators which may have some bearing on battery life and starting problems!

It seems to be getting harder to find batteries with square-post bolt-through terminals, as used in the 2-seater Elan. (I don't know what you have in the Plus 2).

But I found these:

Not sure of their quality, but I think I might go for a Numax 093 to replace my battery.

Both batteries that I owned, died pretty much over the 5 years my Elan has been off the road, they won't hold charge for more than a day.
