S1 Indicator Switch Modification

PostPost by: AlfaLofa » Sun May 19, 2013 12:13 pm

I got hold of a NOS S1 indicator switch.

The trouble was that it had a grey plastic sleeve on the stem and a grey terminating knob as was used on the very early Triumph Heralds and its early derivatives such as the Courier van. In fact the switch is dated January 1960.

So, I carefully removed the knob, made a silicone mould and cast a few black knobs.

I pushed (exceedingly difficult) black heat shrink sleeving onto the stalk and then araldited the replacement black knob to the stalk. I left the sleeving unheated.

I have a couple of other grey stalks to 'update'.

I might also put replacement knobs on the original stalks which are still fitted to my car. These knobs are translucent tortoiseshell in appearance - but I've been told by 2 people (including Bill of Rarebits) that they were originally solid black. Old age has apparently induced the colour change.
