Column Switch Covers

I saw these pressed steel covers being sold as S1 & S2 parts.

Is it as clear cut as that, or did some find their way onto S3's before the plastic versions were introduced? (I have both types available)

My S2 had plastic, I'll check the S1 which is an Jan 64.
