S2 Wiper Single or Twin Speed?

Hello All,

A quick question regarding the wipers on my 1965 S2. Are they single speed? or does the wiper switch connect a resistor in series with the field winding to alter the speed? if so what is the value of the resistor? I do not have a wiper switch to see the connections.
There does not appear to be a resistor shown in the wiring diagram hence the question are the single speed?

No separate resistor.....variable speed switch

Hi Baz

This is what you are looking for, its missing the wiper knob though. The inset photo shows the back and outline of the variable resistor.

Gary:

Either you spent one month disassembling an Elan and photographing every nut and bolt and spent another month cataloging the photos, or you've got an equally impressive storage system allowing you to put your hands on any little item and taking a quick snap. Either way, mighty impressive! :)

Baz, glad to see you making some headway. Keep us posted. #4388-10 (my car, remember?) makes slow but steady progress. If you were doing a frame-off, I might suggest a friendly wager on who gets done first. As it is, I think you're way ahead of me.

Does it not originate from mk1 or 2 ford cortina or an anglebox so perhaps now easier to find. :D Curly 1964 S2 26Rrrrrrrr eventully

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the info.

The wiper switch and knob, heater control cable and knob are just two of the many parts which are missing from my car. I guess it may take several months to find all of the bits but i have plenty of time.

Dave, i have a deadline of April 1st next year to have my car in a roadworthy condition, mechanically sorted but without any body restoration, how does that compare to you?

And if you need bonnet release pulls try rover 2000, open righthand storage lid & there she is & generally in pristine condition. :lol: Curly 1964 S2 26Rrrrrrr

Lordy, I sure hope I've got it running by then. Mechanically, that's a no-brainer, I think. However, I've got some body and paint to be done. Since there are large sections of exposed body filler right now, running the car without completing the paintwork would represent a, er, "compromise" of certain principles. But I've got to say, the desire to feel the car running at speed is mighty strong.

Glad to have April 1 as a target. I think I can reasonably chase you in that pursuit. Hopefully the challenge gets one of us to the desired finish line by then, if not both. Course, we could both fail miserably as well, couldn't we. :shock:

More photos, please. Are you keeping a thread alive of your progress? I do find those posts to be some of the most interesting reading.
