Federal S4 headlight operating mechanism.

PostPost by: dpchamp87 » Sat Nov 20, 2010 9:47 pm

So the car is in a thousand pieces and despite taking pictures and keeping notes I have missed something. How is the operating tube (single failsafe vacuum operated) mounted? Do the 1/4 20 hex bolts go through the headlight pod then through the bobbin and then into the end of the operating rod so it pivots on the bolt? Is there a bush or something put over the bolt to make it the same size as the hole in the tube?

Thanks

David

The operating rod goes into the headlamp bucket. The 1/4x20 hex bolts (actually called anti-rattle joints) are attached to the very bottom of the headlamp bucket and the second one to the rod itself, connected by the threaded link. I'll make a scan of the parts list and drawing and put it up or PM it to you later today.

Hi David

There is some info that I posted a while back on the non-failsafe vacuum system but much of may be of use to you.

Thanks Gary; the picture of the fail safe system in your post makes things clear.
