Ignition switch problem or not?

PostPost by: Kerryt333 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 8:25 pm

I've been having trouble starting my +2 & someone told me to run a wire direct from positive side of battery to positive terminal of the coil, so by-passing ignition switch, which seems to work a treat.
Does this mean that the contact in the switch between start & on is worn or could it be a fault in a wire?
Opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Kerry, it certainly sounds like you have a problem with the ignition switch. I was able to restore mine by liberally spraying inside the switch housing with contact cleaner. Mine worked in run but not in start. Car would start if you turned it over, and quickly went back to run.

Does it have an anti-theft (anti-start  ) switch in the glove box?

Matthew,
Definitely hasn't got an anti-theft switch in glovebox.
I could start the car before but has always needed to be cranked over & over numerous times and would get progressively closer to starting almost as though the fuel was not being pumped efficiently, but since I've used the direct wire to the coil it will fire first time and start second or third time.
