Sprint Ignition key

PostPost by: memnon » Sun Jul 19, 2009 6:51 pm

Does anyone know if it is possible to identify a key from the ignition barrel assembly?

Mine being a sprint is on the steering column. I have the lock etc, but no key and I'll be needing one soon!
Thanks,

Jason

Jason,

There should be a number on the key barrel device. The device is the part into which the key fits. You will have to remove the steering lock to get at it.
If you find the number, this link may help:

Sue Miller & Matty sell the complete lock assembly with keys - perhaps they also sell the device with keys.

Jason,

If you need one, I'll sell you a complete lock assembly with a matching key.

Do that, because removing the locking steering column is the single worst job on an Elan- even worse than working on the remote door lock connections.

Of course there may be worse jobs on the +2 luxo-barge but I would not know about that.

....Update.....

The barrel in my steering lock is broken, so even having a key wouldn't help. Looks like I'll have to fork out for a complete new assembly as the barrels a NLA.

Nobody said this would be a cheap hobby, but it means that I will have spent just over what the car is worth complete!
