Electrical Gremlins

PostPost by: nico506 » Sun Jun 07, 2009 5:13 pm

Hi All,
I know this is common to all and sometimes this issue foxes the best of us and makes us feel so frustrated and angry grrrrr when Lotuses are supposed to be a joy to work on !!!! -so close to completing it.

I have had the car running fine , starting ok etc and then when returned after a week- starter turns very slowwwwllyyy and sidelights light up when ign key turned- traced voltage in sidelight circuit at 2.5 volts back to lamp switch - but struggling where to start before lamp switch as not fiddled with any wiring apart from headlamp circuit - which got fried.

Any help or tips - should I start by checking all grounds - or power circuits first with voltmeter etc.????

Any tips /advise and really need this sorted as slowing me down big time- summer is coming fast - although it is raining at the moment.

I live in Leicester - so any one who has experienced same 'malady' - welcome to send PM and meet up.

Also all wiring is new and rewired as part of total ground up restoration as is all fittings , connections etc.

Also does anyone know any good auto electricans in the Midlands who are familiar with this car brand as I'd like them to check the car over etc.
Many thanks for help in advance.

Thanks

Nico

Sounds like a poor earth path. Someone with more electrical knowledge than me can tell you why the sidelights come on (often indicators as well!), but they do! The starter takes a huge current, so needs a strong earth connection with the battery..

May I ask if the problem was located / solved

My reason for asking is that I experienced a similar problem last night.

The guess would be bad earth somewhere but a hint about where to search is very welcome :-)

Happy new year to all of you.
