Radio

PostPost by: theelanman » Mon May 20, 2013 7:05 am

I have put a remote control unit in the boot/trunk and left the blanking plate on he dash.....
my player is a radio/mp3/aux input thing (no CD...runs off an 8GB sd card and my phone or ipod)
I have wired in an aux input from the dash (thinking I may put this behind the ashtray.....but its ok for the moment)
a magic eye extender hidden just under the dash
the speakers are in the vertical behind the driver and passenger rather than shelf mounted.....
works for me....
the radio was ?20 and std single din 4" deep and the speakers ?40 4" x 6" with a mounting depth of 1.75"
all that is in the car is an aux input lead, a magic eye extender and the remote control

Resurrecting this thread for a 2nd time

I eventually bought a pair of RetroSound R-463N shallow mount speakers from Classic Car Stereo:

http://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/

I had to wait until this month before they came in from the USA.

I have mounted the speaker on 15mm ply above the fibreglass mounting area beneath the screen.

The shallow mount speaker and the extra 15mm of ply enables my Motorola to slide beneath the speaker.

This radio is of the period and the 828 was top of the Motorola range back in the mid '60s - in fact an 828 was selected by John Lennon for his Ferrari 330GT (see page 53 of the August 'Classic Cars' mag !!!!).

I've now had mine converted for use with an iPod/MP3.

I know that I won't hear anything while I'm on the move - but I will be able to hear the radio when I'm parked up in the supermarket car park waiting for my other half to do the shopping.

:D Also the 828 looks infinitely better than the ratty old Philips radio which used to fill the radio aperture. :D

Success :D :D :D

This is the first time I've had (plumbed-in) music in the Elan since I bought the car over 40 years

The iPod/Radio works just as it should.

Wow - was it difficult to fit the Motorola in the gap beneath the speaker.

And what a pain fitting the speaker securely.

All sorts of jiggery pokery.
