What are these?!

Hello all,

I've just collected my +2 and, despite the alternator failure on the way home, am loving it!

I'm having a couple of problems though, partly with identifying a couple of bits. I've attached pictures.

Firstly there are a couple of modern relays installed in the fuse box, and one of the older relays is not connected (although there are some wires loose around it). The indicators aren't working at the minute, is this old relay a likely culprit? If so can anyone suggest which terminal I should match each wire to? Also any suggestions about the new ones are welcome, but I presume that any suggestiions would be guesswork without an in-depth tracing exercise (both me - arm operation - and the car - alternator - are currently out of action so I won't be doing this myself for a couple of weeks at least!).

Next, I've got a bag of bits, most of which I was able to identify. But can anyone shead any light on the red lens cover, the metal backing plate with nuts welded on, and the bent chrome strips?

And finally - what on earth are these buttons by the steering wheel? The toggle switch does the front fogs, but I've never seen anything like the 'back fire' and 'fire thro' buttons. Are these some kind of exhaust effects?! I haven't tried them yet and now the battery is flat as a pancake due to the alternator failure.

Any thoughts are appreciated!!

Thanks!

Tim

 'Fire' & Lotus are a BAD combination... Leave well alone until you work out what they do :!:

Take good care of the 2 chrome strips in your 'bits.JPG' photo - they are the 2 halves of the nose intake trim and very valuable. Alternatively, I'll give you ?10 for them...

The (melted?!) red lens looks like it's from one of the lights fitted to the rear end of the doors.

If you haven't already got one, you should get a Workshop Manual (Lotus service publication). The wiring diagram may help you to identify the disconnected wires & relay. Or it may just confuse things if the wiring is non-standard - looks like a lot of add-on relays & switches in the photos... :?

Hmmm... good idea about the buttons, although an after-market self-destruct button seems more Aston Martin than Lotus. But that Esprit in the film had one I suppose.

I'm delighted to hear that I have the nose trim. I must decline your kind offer of ?10 for them... ;)

Thanks!

To those who were after the nose trim, there's one on eBay:

Good luck!
