Modern Starter Motor and Generator

PostPost by: Jolly Jumper » Thu Feb 12, 2009 12:45 pm

Hi all

can someone please steer me in right direction with regard to a modern starter motor and generator? I know of the Edge Performance Starter sold by Cambridge Motorsport. Then there is one made by Brise I think?

Any recommendations?

What needs to be changed if a modern generator is being fitted?

oh, did not see that (plus 2 section).
Thanks. The website is rather confusing... Are Luke manufactureres or dealers? Where can you buy their products? Are they better than others?

I found Luke sells the same stuff as everyone else but at lower cost.

The starter and alternator I bought from him arrived the following day.

Simply look at his detailed listings then call or e-mail him.

A word of warning. I bought the Edge Performance starter that Cambridge Motorsports sells for the Ford X-Flow / Twin Cam / BDA. I found that this starter is right for the engine, but it doesn't fit on the Elan. The chassis gets in the way !!. The orientation of the front plate makes the case interfere with the chassis rail. The front plate can be modified and rotated to make it fit, which is what I did. What was supposed to be an easy 2 hour job ended up being a whole day fumbling under the car.

Make sure you buy a starter that has been machined to fit on the Elan, not just on a Ford Twin Cam.

Hi,
I bought mine here and am very happy with it. A tight fit, but no more difficult than the original.

Do you have to change the direction the ring gear faces? or is this a simple replacement?
