Hi,
Looks like my distributor has had a bit of bodging in the past - tried to fit a new cap today and a section of the body broke off with the clip on it! There are traces of what looks like Araldite around the broken area..
Is this something that can be economically fixed or do I buy a new one?

Hi Robbie,
Thats a dead distributor!
One trick that worked for me years ago, was to swap the internals into a housing off a Mini/Morris Minor etc. The casting is identical apart from having a vacuum advance. Fit your Lotus dizzy shaft, advance weights and springs and cam into the new housing, but use the contact plate off the donor dizzy. In this way, you can use the vernier adjustment which is part of the vacuum advance.
Alternatively, I've got a proper housing in my drawer here at work!
Regards,
Alex
