[quote="Edwin"] I have checked the power at the horn and irrespective of wheather it is pushed or not there is no voltage. quote]
Edwin, as far as I remember there is voltage all the time at the horn(s) and by pressing the horn button you are sending an "earth" to the horn to complete the circuit.

Will try all of this, I presume as my car is negative earth having been converted that the supply at the horn should then be a constant negative.
Have time to work through this as am waiting for an adaptor to take off the rear hubs which the PO has put on the incorrect sides.

If your car is a negitive earth then the the constant power supply at your horn is a + and the pulse sent by the horn button will be a negitive - (earth)

check to see if the horn "pencil" contact spring is ok, thats the bit inside the steering wheel boss next to the nut holding the steering wheel on, it is spring loaded against the horn push, onto a contact ring in the steering column. they are easily broken and often missing! If it's there, and permanently live then follow the earth return down the steering column, to the wire that should bridge the flexible/shear joint in the column, then at the steering rack, from the filler bolt down to the chassis.
hope this makes sense!!
