Electronic dizzy

PostPost by: gsminors » Fri Dec 01, 2006 2:57 am

As I am getting the +2 up to spec with a weber head I would also like to replace the dizzy with a electronic one mainly to save the hassle of fiddling with points. Has any one done this? and what type of unit is best?
Winter is here this week -32c time to stay indoors and plan for these modifications.
Thanks

I installed the points replacement solid state ignition. I have used both "the igniter" and lumintion. Both of the hall effect type (i.e. not the light with a chopper blade). These units simply replace your points all contained within your existing distributor. There may be issues with you tachometer with them.

I have fitted to my 1970 +2 Lumenition Magnetronic coil and distributor unit, which fits under the cap, the coil requires a ballast resistor which is supplied. It has been trouble free and does not affect the tacho.

I replaced an old Lumenition set up (light beam and chopper type) with the Aldon Ignitor & coil (no balance resistor) and Magnecor ignition leads.

Dead easy to fit & set up and the ignitor stuff fits inside the dissy cap. The car starts easily and runs well. I'm also getting a little more MPG as well :)

Oops,

Forgot to add that I don't have any trouble with a bouncing tach either. It wanders about a bit but I think that's just old age. :)
