Distributor Cap & Silicone Leads

PostPost by: nico506 » Wed Aug 23, 2006 12:23 pm

Hi all,

I have just purchased a new Distributor cap and in conjunction with this purchased some new silicone HT leads and subsequently removed the old leads and cut the new silicone leads and fitted these into the new dizzy top.

I have just read somewhere - 'Brian Bucklands' book that silicone leads have to have a unique dizzy top as the original caps are only suitable for copper cored leads.

I may have ruined a set of silicone leads- can anyone clarify or assist on this point please.

Thanks in advance for help.

Regards

I've used Hotwire leads (the orange ones) in a standard cap for the last 15 years without a problem. :)

If the leads are particularly soft material and you have the screw type distributor cap they can split and pull out.
The trick is to restrain the leads so they can not not pull on the cap.

I've been using a set of blue silicone leads for a couple of years. The only mod the the dissy cap was to drill larger holes so the leads would fit in properly.

It all works fine. :) :)
