Alternative stainless rear box, any ideas?

PostPost by: thor » Sat Jun 10, 2006 10:59 am

Have got a stainless system on my +2S130/5, with a very tired looking rear box. Will be replacing this at the end of the month, and would like to know of any nice looking/sounding alternatives to the standard Paul Matty one of about ?90.

Any tips?

Thor,

I picked up a nice ss rear box from Sue Miller. Nice noise - not too harsh.
Cost me ?85 + VAT. She also sells some neat exhaust clamps - not the usual 'U' bolt type.

You can reach her on 01728 603307 (Tel & Fax). She is really good to deal with.

Regards,
Stuart.

Any chance you've got a picture? Sue Miller seems like a great supplier with the best service available, it's just such a pain not to have any kind of website to look at....

I sympathise, but this is one supplier well worth the extra mile (IMHO).

Am now trying to work out who I last lent my camera to. If/when I do, I'll take a picture (it will obviously be fitted to the car) and try and post my first attachment.........don't hold your breath (vbg).

Hopefully some time tomorrow.

Regards,
Stuart.

Thor, I fitted the Paul Matty one and am happy with it. And it "only" makes 95dB so is quiet enough for Castle Combe etc, which was a worry.

Why did I somehow know that was just bound to happen?
Here's another try:

Stuart,
Try reducing the size of the pics before posting, happened to me a couple of times.
Do a test in the test section.

Brian,

Now that's a good idea! Will do.

(I did read the 'help' for attachments, and then checked out my file, which was jpeg format and less than 700 odd k, still .......)

Thor,

Hopefully this time success!

I replaced the intermediate pipe at the same time, and cut it slightly longer than the original.

This allows the tailpipe to 'just' clear the rear valance, so no more "soot" to keep removing.

Regards,
Stuart.

Great photo worth waiting for .
Does your silencer scrape the ground sometimes ?it looks not to be close enough to the body .I neded to raise mine as close as I could and it still scrapes in certain circumatances

John,

Thanks.

Yes it is a bit low! The intermediate pipe came 'loose' when I bought the Sprint. No matter how I shaped up to cut it, there was no way to avoid a low spot where the pipe fitted to the manifold Y piece. I did the best I could.

So in fact although the box looks low, the lowest point is just to the rear of the Y !!!

I'm trying to source another, more accurate intermediate pipe. Can only think that the PO's pipe was a bit of a rogue.

Regards,
Stuart.

Lovely! This with the upturned pipe looks like a nice alternative to the PM one, so I'll probably order one in a weeks' time. I think my intermediate pipe already is as long or longer than yours here, otherwise I'll do the same to stop the soot.., and to show off the new shiny pipe..:-)

Right,
I have talked to Sue which seems as customer friendly as I've heard. She's out of stock of +2 rear boxes at the moment, and will be calling me back in a week's time when they shoudl be in. Apparently yours with the upturned rear pipe is for the Sprint and too short/small for my +2S130---

Thanks for the tip
