....maybe it doesn't like getting too hot.....100 degrees C is pretty hot..

That's very true John. The gauge scale does go to 110 deg C but maybe that's just so the needle is vertical at normal running temp. Likewise the oil pressure gauge which goes to 60 psi max. If that's true then 30 psi and 85 deg C would be "normal" is that about right? Been a long time since I had my engine running so I can't remember !

Thanks for that John
I'll speak to Susan Miller

Looks like I'll be seeing the correct temperature soon!

Thanks to all

Hi all again. On the kettly testing concerns, I tested mine with the sensor suspended dipped into the centre of a saucepan of water that was boiling very gently, so that shouldn't do any harm. At least I really hope not.

All the best.

Sean.

p.s. here's a pic of my temp sensor if it helps.

I do not have a problem at the moment with my 40 year old voltage stabiliser but could someone advise a supplier and a part No. for a Solid State Voltage Stabiliser, I would put it away in my `handy gear` store for possible problems later.
Kind Regards and thanks John.

 The snow couldn't have been that deep - mine arrived today.

Thank's a lot John, my friend.

However, it will be another 6 weeks before the engine goes back in and I will be able to reconnect the battery to see if it works.

Brian

You don't have to wait, just connect a battery to it and meter the output (10v +/- 1%) load or not..

John

My temp sender doesn't look like that - mine has a threaded end, not a spade, with a round crimp on the end of the sender wire which is not a great fit... methinks this may be why my temp is not reading correctly !

Ordered a new one from QED today... will see what difference it makes....

Update - fitted new sender today, temp reading went straight to 110deg, on a practically cold engine ! [I'd only driven it out of the garage]. Took it for a run, temp steady just below red, went up maybe 3mm to bottom of red zone, no further.

So, either the gauge is u.s. or the voltage stabiliser. How easy is it to get to the stabiliser ? Is it a dash out job ?

Was planning on replacing the dash at some point anyway... just not now !

Hi. I can't speak from experience as my dash is yet to go in, but the stabiliser is near the edge of the dash as shown in earlier pics in this thread, so it may be poss to reach it by removing the underdash trim. If not then maybe leaning the dash out from the bottom will give you enough clearance, but since this'll involve removing the centre console you're probably not far off being able to pull the whole dash out - wires still attached. I suspect it is indeed a dash out job to replace the standard one. If you can get to the wires, however, it may be poss. to pull them out enough to allow you to fit a solid state reg or a direct replacement one, but not put it back in the original position. Good luck anyway. The dash is the next big job for me. I only managed about an hour on the car over the last week though - family and work keep me busy I'm afraid.

All the best.

Sean.

Just tried it again now - on a stone cold engine, turned the key to on and the temp needle goes up to just below the 85 deg marker. Tempted to put the old sender back in now !
