This is all excellent information that should be printed-out and kept in workshop manuals as reminders.
One of the reasons for doing the conversion is that I had two H4 halogens sent to me in error from eBay and the sender did not want them returned. As I found these fitted nicely into a couple of headlamp bowls I had in the loft, how to use them became obvious. And as a retired person I now have time to do such silly things.
Perhaps my original post was not worded correctly in saying "I know I need to uprate the solenoids and cables" - what I should have said was that I intend to uprate the solenoids and cables.
Having been in the automotive industry for most of my working life, I am well aware of the cost constraints that keep operating safety factors to a minimum ? Lotus/Chapman was a master at this practice. It appears to me that for a small amount of money I can increase the safety factor around the headlamp supply by a factor of 4 simply by using slightly heavier cables and relays.
