I have a 67 S3 with +ve earth and am considering this little project as well: Getting a vintage radio and installing FM with aux in for ipod. The Philips turnlock types mentioned above dont seem right for my car. These are from the 70's aren't they? Well they look like it any way.
I assume that around 1966-67, radios were an advanced optional extra, most cars not being fitted with one as standard. Does anyone know what type was fitted to an S3 of 1967. I would like to find one and attempt this.

They are often on ebay for about ?20 - ?40...not as expensive as the Turnolocks as they are full size...not the 3.5 inch depth. And I think that you're right...the Turnolock didn't come out until sometime in the early 70s.

Have a look at item 270045933559 on ebay currently...I think that this is the same model...and it's currently under a fiver!

A company called WALMLEY CLASSICS Tel 01213111588 will convert an early radio to fm/mp3 for ?50 + pp.

I fitted a 70's style radio with FM to my plus 2 Just fitted in the dash. I then connected it up through a Prinz (yes I know) sound expander that gives a boost to the mono output from the radio. The sound expander is stereo so fitted a male and female jack connection (same as my Ipod) in between the two unit and put the prinz unit in the glovebox. I paid ?15 for the prinz unit from Warmley Classics. Gives me everything I want - period radio with FM and the ability to listen to an mp3 player.

Perfect.

Does anyone know who converts radios to fm etc? The link supplied earlier in this thread seems to be a site under construction.
At Cadwell park earlier in the year I met a guy who had had his converted to fm and also had a socket to plug an mp3 player into, he kept this in the glove compartment.
This seems to be the way to go.
