Elan Sprint Steering Wheel Stitching

PostPost by: NTG999 » Tue Apr 23, 2024 2:46 pm

Hi all, I'm having my original steering wheel re-covered, it was done before (30 years ago) not very well.
Does anyone have a photo of the stitching style on an original wheel?

This is original stitching on a S3 SE SS leather wheel, the Sprint had a plastic covered (plastic welded) joint as I remember.

My Sprint has the plastic welded cover which has split, and feels very cheap and nasty. The leather covered wheels are far better.

If you search the forum, there are recommendations for firms that restore steering wheels.

That's great thanks, mine looks like that - maybe because it's an early Sprint

Mine has been done by a man called Snappy, he had the wheel when I posted my question so it's now on its way back to me. I'll post up some pictures when it arrives

The chap near Exeter is called Paul and his contact is
[email protected].

He works on executive aircraft and high end yachts in and around the area, I have had both a steering wheel and seats done by him and he also does door panels and trim on Lotus.

I had an old leather steering wheel recovered by Royal Steering Wheels at Stoke Mandeville. Excellent service

I've also heard good things about Royal. Snappy who I used was 38 years at Bentley including 5 years apprenticeship. If anyone wants his number just PM me. Nick
