Philips Turnolock Spyder Radio

Hi,
I recently purchases a Philips Turnolock radio off eBay to fit into my Elan. It's a Spyder Delux 22RN513 /22. Am I correct in thinking there should be a red power cable coming out the back? I only seem to have earth and aerial (grey) wires. If so can anybody tell me where the power wire connected to in the radio or even recommend somebody who could fix the radio for me?

I just checked on a 314 lying around, and the red wire was getting out from the hole just next to the loudspeaker output (NB: female, but you have prongs/connector blades stuck in on your photo).

I've circled on your photo in red and black the opening from which the red and black wires would be getting out

I suppose your radio has been opened and "fettled" with, as I'm sure you've noticed when you removed the casing... I can check an actual 513 if it matters to you, but what I woud to would be at least to double check where each of these wires are soldered internally.

I believe the aerial would have to be plugged in an outlet to the other side (the grey wire may be to light up the screen, again I can check if you need).

The 2 pin speaker prongs just pull out and I have another speaker plug I can use.
I sort of guessed the main power lead was missing but don't know if this is because it was pulled off or if somebody messed around with the wiring?
The second photo shows where the other wire are soldered. I just don't want to blow anything up by connecting 12v across the grey and black wires :? The aerial socket is all fine and looks ok.
It would be nice to get the radio up and running again

Carl,

The grey wire is for an electric aerial, black is earth. Your red wire has most likely been pulled off.

Have a poke around the area that I have circled in red. If you can see where the end of a wire has broken off and you feel adventurous, you could try soldering a new wire to this point.

It looks a likely spot, that wire wound component below this is an inductor and would have filtered the incoming power supply to reduce interference.

This is only a guess, if you don't want to risk it, then go to a specialist.

Well, if you need I can dig a 513 and open it to take a photo of where the power wires are soldered (as for the aerial, on the radio of that era that have a grey cable with a female outlet at the end rather than a female plug in the middle of the casing, this is a thick coax cable, 4-5mm in diameter, so I would double check where this one goes before assuming this is for the antenna).

Two different people have come back to me and suggested that’s where the missing power cable goes, so I will give it a go! Thanks for all the advice!
