Electronic ignition demons

I have fitted an Aldon electronic ignition to my sprint.
My engine was running very erratically, causing me much consternation. It took me ages much money and lost hair to determine the cause.
Eventually I noticed, purely by chance, that the magnetic rotor was loose and moved through about 15 degrees of rotation on the “points cam”. This rotor is supposed to be and must be a tight fit over the “points cam” or the ignition timing is randomly varying.
I contacted aldon, who admitted that this was a known common fault and recommended that I glue the rotor in place!!!
I advised that I was not into bodges and expected their system to be fit for purpose. At this they asked that I send the distributor to them and they would try to find a rotor that is a tighter fit! We’ll see what transpires!!
So those using Aldon ignition be aware, those thinking of equipping their car with such a device, examine the market place!

I've got a deadline, at 73, I want to finish it before I die!

I've used ACCU Spark which includes a new distributor ie electronic ignition fitted within the dizzy .
I've had 4 to date , all perfect and have good back up from ACCU Spark themselves .

I can't knock the Aldon Ignitor. I bought one in 2003 and fitted it to my S3 S/E. When I bought the car back in 2020, the very same unit was working well still, and the rotor was still a good tight fit on the distributor shaft.. The following year, one of the magnets in the original plastic rotor came unstuck, so I superglued it back in, and bought a new, spare plastic rotor, just in case. Never needed to use the new one yet. I've also had the Ignitor on Alfa's and a BMW Neue Klasse, without fault. Sounds like you were unlucky.
