Festoon 239

PostPost by: gentry74 » Wed Oct 19, 2022 10:08 pm

I've got an interior dash light from RDent.com. It lists festoon 239 as the bulb type. The bulbs get too hot. The original lamp had a melted lens. Anyone know of the LED equivalent bulb? I get lots of hits via the web....many look usable... but i'd rather hear from someone who has bought and can confirm

Thanks very much

I bought a festoon bulb off the internet that looked ok but didn't fit. Ended up getting the one from RD and it works fine. Maybe you have a wiring problem. :)

I’ve replaced all the festoons with LED versions for the same reason - the covers showed signs of heat damage. Unfortunately it was a few years ago so I can’t remember the code numbers but I think I just measured the originals and bought as close as I could get. Many of them are available in different colour temperatures and you should buy the 3000 kelvin (= ‘warm white’) versions if you want the same look / feel as the originals.

I fitted this one, a bit brighter than the original but I like it!
Replaced indicators, brake and side lights at the same time and pleased with results.
Makes all the exterior lights more visible as well

I second Richard. Classic Car Leds have all you need, and you get very bright lighting with no heat. I have done all mine, car and house! D

thanks all. This is helpful. I will search for equivalent via US reseller. To be clear: I already have the correct festoon 239 regular bulb. I just dont want to have the lens melt if I accidentally leave the map light on for more than 10 minutes.... so want LED instead (since its an option)

Hi Gentry,
Festoon lamps come in different lengths. It helps to specify the length as well as the type number.
