Head lamp vacuum switch knob assembly pictures

Has anyone a photograph of the knob parts of the head lamp vacuum switch on the sprint? I think I have a part missing.. the button that is pressed from the side of the knob!

Overall length 5.8 mm
Shaft diameter 3.0 mm
Head diameter 3.5 mm
Head thickness 0.6 mm

Maybe you didn't read the post I linked to.

The pin can be found in any MGB or MG Midget in the heater control knob.

I'm sure you can find one on eBay or in a junk yard/breaker. I found one easily among my friends.

I did read the post .. very good info.
There are several MG heater controls on Ebay at the moment and a few still have the required pin attached ... they're not particularly cheap though. Making the pin, if that's the only part needed, may be a quicker and cheaper alternative.

OK, I’ve made a pin. For my next question, how the hell do I assemble the knob onto the pull shaft whilst its in the car??? I’ve already dropped the pin down into the gap between the dash and centre console! Couldn’t use a magnet cos I made it from brass, took me ages to wheedle it out with long nosed tweezers.
So does anyone have a demon technique, magic formula, or advice on how it’s done???

Hi Bob,
It is a bit fiddly but not that difficult.
First insert the pin through the hole in the shaft and then fit the spring clip in the recess in the shaft to retain it, the clip has sprags on either end to wedge it into the recess. Once assembled it should then all stay in place while you push the knob on until the pin locks it in position. Getting the pin to stay put while you fit the spring clip is possibly the tricky bit and I guess that's what you are struggling with? You may find it's a bit easier if the switch assembly is rotated clockwise in the dash as far as possible so that the hole slopes down slightly from left to right then gravity will help stop the pin falling out while you fit the clip. Difficult to explain but I hope you get the idea.
